My first published work was in the Times Educational Supplement sometime in the mid 1990s. Fired up by that I wrote a few more and some for my union magazine, followed by some little text books for First & Best in Education. In those days they produced photocopiable texts, these days they do .pdf. Two of the three are still available, the electronics one has been discontinued because it’s rather out of date.
My published work helped me get a job as support manager for an educational software company where I wrote advertising copy, catalogue information, advertorials and training manuals. Quite often it included the photography, illustration and DTP work too.
I left the office job at the end of 2005 to concentrate on writing, but have done some part-time teaching and a little training too. Being in a classroom does give me an insight that some educational writers lack. Anyone can read an Ofsted or Estyn report, I know what goes on in normal classrooms on a day-to-day basis.
